A Comfortable Alternative for Wigs for Cancer Patients
Many women purchase a cancer wig when they experience hair loss during chemotherapy. When they lose their hair, they want to replace it so they resemble their pre-treatment selves. So, the chemo wig.
But no one wants to wear a chemo wig 24 hours a day. Everyone needs some chemo headwear for the times when they are not wearing wigs, even if it just when they are sleeping. Many people find a cancer wig uncomfortable physically and psychologically. It can be difficult to adjust to something fitting so close to the head. Some women on chemo even take off their wigs as soon as they get home, often before they take off their coats.
Some feel self-conscious in a chemo wig, wondering if it is on straight or if it will blow off in the wind. Those fears are probably not realistic, but images of displaced wigs in cartoons and situation comedies are hard to ignore.
And some people feel pretentious for pretending to have hair when they do not. That was my biggest problem with my wig.
I had to believe there were other cancer patients who felt the same level of discomfort that I felt wearing a wig during chemotherapy. Since the selection of chemo wig alternatives was very limited, I designed my own collection of hats and turbans for women with hair loss. My original designs include chemo hats, cancer turbans, sleep caps and chemo head wraps.
There is no right or wrong solution to concealing hair loss. For some, a cancer wig is the only alternative. For others, chemo hats and cancer turbans work best. For most, a combination of wigs and cancer hats is the solution.
The only important consideration is to make whichever selction suits you. You have a need to feel comfortable. Just In Time cancer hats can help.
